To the motor palace!
To the motor palace!
It was my feller and my anniversary last weekend, and what better to say I love you than to get on our motorcycles and ride 1100 miles in two and ½ days? Even though we had no real business to take care of regarding the Motor Palace, we figured we’d ride out to Winslow and take a peek anyway. We missed it.

Next morning, we got up early and continued the journey, passing through the wild fires near Flagstaff. Didn’t see flames, but certainly sucked in some smoke. We got to Winslow and realized in our eagerness to get on the bikes we kinda forgot to bring keys to the Palace. Luckily our building restoration guru, Glenn, had a key so we could pop in and see how things looked. Yep. Looked the same.
In addition to the lovely new street lamps in downtown, we had a little excitement when some overzealous football-playing-teens tripped over a
water valve and created a geyser at the Standing on the Corner Park.
Talk about gathering a crowd!
Last time we were in Winslow, our favorite Turquoise Room waiter Nathan told us about his girl, Miss Tayva (a former pinup model, artist, singer), and her interest in Kustom Kulture and art. Since I need some artwork for Motor Dolls, we met with her, saw her Triumph chopper project, and talked about the art. Hopefully I’ll have some exciting new stuff to post sometime near the end of July! Her idea for the Motor Dolls logo and cover art is very cool.
Sunday night, we had a lovely dinner at the La Posada’s Turquoise Room, slept great, got up and got back on the bikes. Crazy, I know, but the fun is in the journey!
We took our time coming back, cruisin’ along some of the two-lane stretches of old Route 66, and stopping to take pictures along the way.
Eleven and a half hours later, we walked in the door at home. After that much time in the seat, you’d think we would have been beat, but I tell ya… there’s something super cool about riding for that long. If you haven’t, you should most definitely try it!
Next moto-journey? Vegas baby! End of July, with a side trip to… you guessed it. The Motor Palace.
